Hanging Art is an Art

I've posted images of artwork groupings before.  Hanging art is an art to a certain degree - whether formally and symmetrically placed or massed randomly.  Here are some older images that have been hanging around in my Shelter magazine files which demonstrate both.

  1. That Stephen Gambrel installation (top photo) is one of my all-time favorites!

    P.S. LOVE your blog tagline.

  2. love the symmetrical stylings. my personality can only embrace the more random hangings, something to do with patience perhaps?

  3. Numbers two and three are perfect, if one likes symmetry as I do. I appreciate symmetry but also appreciate well-balanced asymmetry. In the first photograph the arrangement looks willful and unconsidered, and I cannot understand why the decorator chose to emphasize it with heavy picture lights.

As you know, I'd been considering so-called gallery walls in my last post and they remain a source of wonderment if not amusement when looking at Pinterest.
